  • Early decision application deadline is December 18th. Submitting an early decision application will provide families with certainty of placement (if available) inJanuary.
  • Following the early decision deadline, we roll into our traditional permit timeline. Permit applications will close March 1st.
  • Requests received after the March 1st deadline will be reviewed and/or processed through a rolling admission processand be based on availability via a waitlist.

What is a School of Choice Permit?

This permit is for families who reside within LVUSD borders and current students who would like to attend a different LVUSD school. This includes students who live outside the district and were previously released from their home district in a prior year and have been permitted to attend LVUSD.

Who can apply for a School of Choice Permit?

Any student living in the boundaries of LVUSD may apply. This includes students who live outside the district and were previously released from their home district in a prior year and have been permitted to attend LVUSD.

You do not need to submit a School of Choice Application if you are planning to attend your neighborhood school. To determine your neighborhood school, please use theFind your School tool. Please note: Buttercup Preschool does not accept permits.

How do I apply for a School of Choice Permit?

Applications will be open from October 1st through March1st. Follow the steps on the school of choice permit application. Please note that upon approval of your School of Choice application, you forfeit your student’s space at your neighborhood school. If you cancel your application before the start of the school year and space is no longer available at your neighborhood school, you will remain assigned to your school of choice until space is available at your neighborhood school.

Who should submit documents for a School of Choice Permit?

Students who are not currently enrolled in LVUSD should submit documentation. Academic records are not needed for students applying to Transitional Kindergarten or Kindergarten, unless the student has an IEP or 504.

What documentation should be submitted when applying?

Follow the steps on the School of Choice application and email the documents within 15 days.
Please include your Permit Request Number on ALL communication sent to the District.

A complete application must include:

Current and last TWOyears only.
1. Report cards > does not apply for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten.
2. Attendance records > does not apply for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten.
3. Behavior/discipline records/inter-office correspondence record- if there are no discipline issues, have the SCHOOL send documentation to that effect if it is not already on the report card. > does not apply for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten.
4. 504/IEP: If your student has or had a 504 or IEP plan, a fully executed signed copy of the report should be submitted.

When should documentation be submitted?

We would prefer you submit your documents as soon as possible, no later than 15 days after completing the application.

How do we know if our student has been accepted?

Please review the Decision and Deadlines drop down.Families will receive an email with the status of the application. Applications received after the deadline will be processed on a case by case basis.

How do I fix my application if I make an error?

We will fix it for you, emailpermitinfo@lvusd.org. You do not need to submit another application.
